The maintenance plan at Shemtov Systems is called the Maximum Performance Membership. It buys two visits a year, a cooling tune-up before summer and a heating tune-up before winter, and it adds three things a non-member does not get: your service calls are handled before theirs, you pay 15 percent less on service and repair rates, and you get $300 off a complete system replacement. Call 240-355-3333 to start one.

Key takeaways

  • Two visits a year, one for cooling and one for heating. Each is called a MaxPro tune-up.
  • Members are scheduled ahead of non-contract customers when something breaks.
  • Members pay 15 percent less on normal service and repair rates.
  • Members get $300 off a complete system replacement, on top of any advertised offer.
  • Scheduled maintenance visits happen during business hours, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.

What is the Maximum Performance Membership?

It is a twice-a-year preventative service agreement. The point is not paperwork; it is that most of what strands a household on the hottest or coldest day of the year is visible months earlier as a drifting measurement, a weakening capacitor, or a coil that has quietly loaded with dirt. Two scheduled visits catch that while it is still cheap. The agreement covers the specific equipment listed on your form, and it renews each year unless you tell us otherwise.

What does the cooling tune-up check?

The cooling visit is booked ahead of summer so anything found can be fixed before the first stretch of Maryland humidity. It covers:

  • Inspect the overall operation of the air conditioning unit
  • Check air filters and replace as necessary
  • Check condensate drain lines and flush as necessary
  • Check the condensate pump for proper operation
  • Check the refrigerant level
  • Check the condenser and evaporator coil and clean as necessary
  • Check all electrical connections
  • Check contactors and capacitors

Refrigerant level matters more than most homeowners expect. A system low on charge is a system with a leak, not a system that needs topping up, and running it that way is how compressors fail. See air conditioning services for repair work outside the plan.

What does the heating tune-up check?

The heating visit is booked before the first cold snap. It covers:

  • Inspect the overall operation of the furnace or heating system
  • Inspect the flame on the furnace
  • Inspect the heat exchanger for signs of cracks
  • Inspect chimney operation
  • Inspect air filters and clean or replace as necessary
  • Inspect all furnace protections such as the limit switch and rollout switch
  • Check all electrical connections
  • Check contactors and capacitors

Two of those are safety checks rather than efficiency checks. Inspecting the heat exchanger for cracks and confirming the chimney draws properly are how a combustion appliance is kept from putting flue gases into the house. That is the part of a tune-up worth having regardless of what it saves on a bill. See furnace repair and installation and heating services.

What do members get besides the two visits?

Three things, and the first is the one that matters in July.

  • Priority handling. Member service requests are responded to before non-contract customers. On the days when everyone calls at once, that is the difference between today and later in the week.
  • Preferred pricing. 15 percent off normal service and repair rates, every time, not just on the visits.
  • $300 off a complete system replacement, in addition to any other advertised offer. If your system is near the end of its life, that discount alone can be worth more than several years of membership. Our guide to HVAC replacement cost in Maryland covers what a replacement runs.

What does the membership cost?

Pricing is per system per year:

  • One HVAC system: $176
  • Each additional system: $96
  • Humidifier, tested, cleaned and pad replaced: $40
  • Electronic air cleaner, tested, cleaned and filter washed: $50
  • Filters: $8

You can supply your own filters, or we can supply them at the additional cost above. Tell us your filter sizes and quantity when you sign up. Call 240-355-3333 to confirm current pricing for your equipment.

What does the agreement cover, and what does it not?

It covers the equipment written on your list, and nothing else. It specifically does not cover electrical, plumbing, ductwork, duct design, or the fixtures housing the equipment. Those are separate services; see duct systems, electrical work and plumbing.

It is also not a warranty. The purpose of the program is to keep your systems in proper mechanical operation for efficiency and comfort, not to underwrite failures. Any additional work found during a visit is quoted and authorised by you before it happens.

One more condition worth knowing up front: if equipment turns out on inspection to be in poor or non-operable condition, we may decline to put it on an agreement. A maintenance plan is for keeping working equipment working, and it would not be honest to sell one against a system that already needs replacing.

How does the agreement start, renew and end?

You complete a member form listing each system by type, model and serial number, and pay by cash, check or card. Scheduled maintenance is performed during normal business hours, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, and booked subject to availability, which is why members who call early in the shoulder season get the most convenient slots.

The agreement stays in effect until either side gives 30 days notice, and renews each year unless you tell us not to. There are no prorated refunds, so the sensible time to decide is at renewal rather than mid-year.

Who gets the most out of a membership?

Households with equipment between roughly five and fifteen years old, where the system still works well but parts are beginning to age, get the clearest return: the visits catch wear early and the 15 percent applies to the repairs that start appearing. Households with two or more systems benefit from the reduced rate on each additional system. So do people who simply do not want to think about it, since we schedule the visits rather than waiting to be called.

If your system is already past the age where most equipment is replaced, the honest advice is usually to put the money toward replacement instead, and take the $300 member discount when you do.

Frequently asked questions

Is the membership a warranty on my system?

No. It is a preventative maintenance program. The purpose is to keep your systems in proper mechanical operation for maximum efficiency and comfort. Manufacturer warranties on your equipment are separate documents, and most of them require documented annual maintenance to stay valid, which is one of the practical reasons to keep a plan.

Can I supply my own air filters?

Yes. You can supply filters yourself, or Shemtov Systems can supply them at an additional cost. If you want us to bring them, give us the filter sizes and the quantity you use when you sign up.

When are the maintenance visits scheduled?

Routine preventative maintenance is performed during normal business hours, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, and is scheduled subject to availability. Booking in the shoulder seasons, spring and autumn, gets you the widest choice of times.

How do I cancel, and does it renew automatically?

The agreement remains in effect until either party gives 30 days notice, and it renews each year unless you give notice. There are no prorated refunds, so the natural point to decide is at renewal.

What if my system is old or not currently working?

We may decline to place equipment on an agreement if, on inspection, it is in poor or non-operable condition. A maintenance plan keeps working equipment working. If a system is already failing, the better conversation is repair or replacement, and members get $300 off a complete replacement.
